Slowclothes Celebrates Their First Birthday

Founded in 2018 by Kari Vallury, Slowclothes is a small business that stocks a range of ethical and sustainable clothing labels from Australia and around the world. Additionally, they also host slow sessions, with the aim of educating consumers about the fashion industry.

To mark their first year, Slowclothes held a small and intimate party for their friends, followers and supporters. With botanical event styling by HunterMade, the celebration was held at Enough Studio in Unley, which is an eco-friendly hair salon and wellness retreat. Guests on the evening were treated to various champagnes and gin, bites and canapés by My Grandma Ben, and cake by From The Wild

During the event, the first four guests who popped their name down had an opportunity to get embroidery done on a Slowclothes piece by The Handmade Creative. In addition to this, guests were able to get up close and personal with the makers of Loris Clothing, who drove down all the way from Melbourne for the party.

For the official proceedings of the birthday, Vallury gave a heartfelt speech about her journey with Slowclothes, and gratefully thanked all her supporters. Following her speech, Dr Sheryn Pitman (Kari’s mother) gave an eye-opening and empowering speech about sustainability and the environment. In her speech, she talked about sustainability in fashion and our lives; to respect the land that we live on, and to treat it with our utmost care and sustainable practices. Additionally, both Vallury and Pitman emphasised the need to consider the impact that our decisions make, and how they affect those who produce our clothing.

This event also marked the official launch of their anticipated website, which is where you will find their stocked labels, as well as an introduction to slow fashion. Thank you to Slowclothes for having me, and congratulations on your first birthday. Check out their website here
